Come summer and the youth and the kids are in a jolly mood,
eager to extract the most out of their vacation time and rejuvenate
themselves for the following academic year. Moms and dads,
at least for time being, have no worries about being at the
back of their fussy kids to rush them to schools and colleges.
And given the incredibly severe summer this year, people have
been finding respite from the scorching heat in the air-conditioned
theaters caring a damn to watch whatever flick is being screened.
Naturally our ever-smart producers try their best to cash
on the summer holidays frenzy by rushing to release their
films during this time.
Like
every summer, this summer and particularly this month is going
to be one of the crucial months for Telugu Film Industry where
three crazy films will be seeing the light of the day in three
consecutive weeks. And they are Adrustam starring Tarun,
Reema Sen, Gajala; Burugapally Siva Rama Krishna - VN Aditya's
Sreeram pairing Uday Kiran and
Anita for the second time after Nuvvu Nenu and Teja's
much hyped Jayam introducing Nitin
and Sada(f). With the movies of the 'Kings' of Telugu film
industry falling like a pack of cards these days, it's these
young 'Jacks' aided by cute 'Queens' who are considered as
a 'life' for a safe 'show' without being forced to 'drop'
or 'pack' by the producers and distributors. Presenting to
you, movies of the month -
Adrustam
- Good luck? or bad luck?
Adrustam
stars Tarun, Reema Sen, Gajala and Asha Saini in the lead
roles. Directed by a debutant director Shekar Suri and produced
by new entrants Vakada Anjan Kumar, Paras Jain under the supervision
of Super good films' R B Choudary, it has music by yet another
debutant into Telugu movies - Dina. Going by the photographs
of Tarun in this movie, he seems to be acting in an action
oriented role with a rough beard and macho looks. Riding high
on the success of his last movie Nuvvu
Leka Nenu Lenu, Tarun is all set to win the hearts of
masses and classes alike with this film. Reema Sen and Gajala,
two of the most popular heroines today whose last movies (Mansanta
Nuvve and Kalusukovalani
respectively) fared well at the box-office, are being paired
for the first time with Tarun in this movie. While a fresh
pairing of the lead stars and the zeal of the debutant director
to prove his mettle are definitely assets to this movie, the
techno music by Dina is not exactly titillating to the ears.
It is believed that an element of socio-fantasy is also tugged
into the story, which mainly talks about love and luck. Interesting
to note is the fact that Tarun's successes have been alternating
with failures. His first movie Nuvve
Kavali was a super hit, his second movie Uncle
bombed miserably. His next movie Priyamaina
Neeku was a hit and his next movie Chirujallu
misfired. His last movie Nuvvu Leka Nenu Lenu was a
winner among this year's Sankranthi releases. Will Adrustam
help him break his 'alternating' jinx by giving him much needed
luck? Adrustam hits the screens on June 6th.
Sreeram
- Jai Ram? Or Hey! Ram?
Sreeram
is considered the best bet among these three racehorses for
various reasons. First and foremost, it is a remake of a Tamil
blockbuster [Dhill starring Vikram and Laila], which
was Tamil film industry's only genuine super hit last year.
Secondly, the eminently successful combination of Manasanta
Nuvve - VN Aditya, Uday Kiran and RP Patnaik - come together
for the second time hoping to recreate their magic. Thirdly,
Uday Kiran, the only successful hero among the current lot
of youth heroes with successful movies to his credit (Chitram,
Nuvvu Nenu, Mansanta
Nuvve, Kalusukovalani)
is not just a lover boy in this movie but also a macho man
not hesitating to beat the baddies black and blue. Though
it's a remake, the director and scriptwriters claim to have
made enough changes to the script, to suit the Telugu nativity.
Whether they have adapted it with aplomb or soiled it with
their skill will soon be known. The success of Sreeram
is bound to make VN Aditya, Uday Kiran and Anita the lucky
mascots of the industry. Most importantly the film's success
will catapult Uday Kiran, who started off very humbly with
boyish looks in Chitram, to stardom having given consistent
and continuous hits. Will the audience sing praises of this
Ram or will they whine saying Hey! Ram? Sreeram releases
on June 12th.
Jayam
- Old wine in new bottle? Or old wine in old bottle?
Jayam
has been in the news since its inception. First it was rumored
that Allu Arjun was going to debut as a hero with this movie
but that fire had to subside even before somebody added ghee
to it. Teja then announced a talent search in a local magazine
for a new hero and heroine. Even before the dreamy youth woke
up from their sleep for a chance to materialize their dreams,
Teja splashed the photos of a handsome hunk Nitin to the media,
declaring him as the hero of the movie. Incidentally Nitin
is the son of a popular and well-to-do distributor of Nizam
area. A little cuckoo has already sung songs of this movie
being financed by Nitin's dad. Money not only rules but also
dictates. Another Mumbaiite Sada(f) makes her foray into Tollywood
with Jayam. Teja seems to be going the Dasari way by
heading the production, direction, story, dialogues and screenplay
departments of the movie. RP Patnaik, a Teja find, religiously
dons his role as music director. Teja has disclosed in an
exclusive interview
with idlebrain.com that he has nothing new to offer in
this film in terms of story but it's his treatment that is
going to impress the audience. Did we not hear such clichés
time and again? But lets take his word for it. Now that he
has stated that he is going to make us sip an old wine, all
we can hope for is that it comes in a new bottle. Touted to
be a love story (yawn!) but with a violent backdrop (yoyo!),
will Jayam prove to be another Nuvvu - Nenu? Jayam
most likely might make it to the marquee either on the 14th
or 21st of June. It would be interesting to see how Uday Kiran
and his mentor Teja compete with each other if Sreeram
and Jayam release in the same week.
